LADD SANGER SETTLES SOUTHWEST FLIGHT 1380 BROKEN FAN BLADE CASE
Ladd Sanger represented multiple passengers injured aboard Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 after the Boeing 737 experienced an uncontained engine failure shortly after departing New York. A fractured fan blade caused the engine to fail and led to explosive decompression, resulting in one fatality and widespread injuries and trauma among passengers.
In its investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board determined that the flight crew was well-trained and did not contribute to the incident. The NTSB concluded that the probable cause was the fractured fan blade itself, noting that the defect likely existed for years and may have been present even after prior overhauls and inspections, though it was not detected at the time.
Ladd secured confidential settlements for several clients who sustained physical injuries and developed severe post-traumatic stress as a result of the incident.
