Fatal Hawaiian Tour Helicopter Crash — Ladd Sanger Secures Recovery for Passenger’s Family

Ladd Sanger represented the family of a passenger killed in the crash of an Airbus EC-130 tour helicopter operated by Blue Hawaiian on the island of Molokai. The aircraft encountered severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and powerful downdrafts, while operating on the leeward side of mountainous terrain.

The investigation determined that the pilot lacked sufficient training and experience in Hawaiian weather environments and elected to continue flight into rapidly deteriorating conditions. The helicopter was ultimately caught in an extreme downdraft that exceeded its performance capabilities, leading to a fatal impact and post-crash fire.
